Mazda MX-5 Kizuna

The Kizuna edition was launched in May 2023 as the UK's version of the earlier Navy Top model available for the Japanese home market. The name "Kizuna" is a rough translation of "enduring bonds" and represents the continued popularity of the MX-5 with its loyal fans.

Kizuna models stood out from the regular MX-5 with a unqiue navy blue roof material that was not available on other cars at the time. The body colour choices were limited to 170 examples in Machine Grey or 80 in Deep Crystal Blue, probably because these colours best complement the roof's colour. I can't see a Soul Red car with a blue roof being an option, as it would look quite strange. The exterior also benefits from a bright version of the standrd 16" alloy wheel, which looks very smart against the darker body colours.

Inside, owners will be surrounded by a lovely light stone coloured interior featuring perforated Nappa leather heated seats. The Kizuna was based on the exclusive-live mid tier specification 1.5 litre 132ps model so included a variety of i-ACTIVSENSE safety technology that had become standard by now. Equipment also included the 9-speaker Bose stereo with headrest speakers in both seats, body colour electric heated door mirrors, adaptive headlights (AFS), auto-dimming rear view mirror, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and smart city brake support for the front and rear.

The list price for the Kizuna was £2,100 above a standard model, buyers would pay a premium for an exclusive, distinctive look. Of course, with the unique selling point being the premium blue soft top roof, there was no equivalent RF model.
