The second of Mazda's 2016 SEMA concept cars is based on the new RF model. This particular concept is named the RF Kuro, largely thanks to it's charcoal black colour scheme. I've already read many forum posts from MX-5 enthusiasts bemoaning the lack of imaginative new colours for what is usually a pretty colourful car show. I have to agree this time, Mazda are sticking with yet another shade of white and grey for both SEMA cars, seems like a missed opportunity to me.
Anyway, the paint used here was specially developed for the show so is unlikely to be seen again. It's a semi-matte metallic black named Kuro which gives the RF a sleek stealth look. Mazda UK offered quite a nice special edition of the NC which also used the Kuro name.
The RF Kuro concept has more of a street focus than the Speedster. There is a smart centre exit exhaust created by Openflash Performance and exterior graphics from Sticky Fingers Design. The alloy wheels are the same 17" forged wheels from Rays that are used on the MX-5 Cup race cars. These are fitted with BF Goodrich Rival G Force 215/45/17 tyres, with handling further improved by adjustable suspension from the MX-5 Cup, and upgraded twin-piston front Brembo brake calipers.
