MX-5 ND Speedster Evolution Concept

MX-5 ND Speedster Evolution Concept
This year's SEMA show again takes place at the Las Vegas convention centre and will see Mazda unveil two new MX-5 concepts. First up we have a new version of 2015's Speedster.

Last year's car has been given a fresh new look with a bright white paint known as White Ether. The exterior is much the same and features blacked out badges, unique door mirrors, unique front grille with 'Speedster' logo, a carbon fibre aero kit with front lip, side skirts, and rear lip, and a centre exit exhaust from Racing Beat.

A new set of 17" 8.5J ET40 RAYS 57 Transcend Gram Lights wheels are fitted along with a switch from Kumho tyres to BF Goodrich, reflecting the current partners of the MX-5 Global Cup programme.

The tyres are BF Goodrich's g-Force Rival R1 grooved racing slicks in size 225/45/17, the same tyre as used on the race cars. The stock suspension has also been replaced with race developed parts from the MX-5 Cup cars. Speedster now has adjustable dampers from Multimatic and Hypercoil springs.

The original Speedster was all about weight saving and as the name implies, this latest version goes even further down that road. Inside, the interior has lightweight seats and a Sparco steering wheel. The original instrument cluster is now replaced with a lighter single unit from AIM.

Further weight savings were found by replacing the battery for a Braille Lithium G20, and reverting from large Brembo brakes back the smaller stock setup. The Evolution model weighs in at around 907kg, which is down from 943kg of last year's model.
