After the positive response the MX-5 RF show car received, Mazda USA chose to use the same colour scheme for their version of the RF Launch Edition. The combination of Machine Grey paintwork and Auburn (aka Chroma Brown) nappa leather interior is exclusive to this particular model in the USA.
The car is based on the top of the range Grand Touring model and also gets a painted piano black roof centre panel, numbered badging, and unique design scuff plates. The engine is the same 155 Bhp 2.0 Skyactiv as the soft top model with a choice of six speed manual or automatic transmission.
With the success of the 25th Anniversary Edition, Mazda is once again partnering with watchmaker Tourneau to offer RF Launch Edition owners in the USA an exclusive gift watch. This specially commissioned, individually numbered, 42mm watch is designed to complement the car and is sure to prove highly collectable.
To add a little more excitement, the very first RF models are being offered to existing Mazda customers on an invitational basis. Prices start at $33,850 for the manual and $34,925 for the automatic version. Production is limited to 1000.
The Spanish version of this car was known as the Nappa Edition. The car is more or less the same specification as the USA's Launch Edition, which is itself a version of the Japanese VS model. However whereas the USA was allocated 1000 cars, Spain has just 50 of these models available. The Nappa edition takes its name from the exclusive brown Nappa leather interior. The 50 cars also came with a unique keychain, a license plate featuring the limited edition number, a track day driving experience, and a custom made suitcase that fits snugly into the boot space.
