Mazda Roadster NR-A

Racing Modified NB
The NR-A version of the NB Mazda Roadster first appeared in 2001. This new model was designed for the beginner race driver who wanted to get started in competition with a sensible budget. The car was registered for road use so you could use it as daily transport during the week and go racing with it at the weekends.

Based on a 1.6 model, the NR-A was given enhanced Bilstein suspension and the larger 270/276mm brakes and anti-roll bars from the 1.8 models. It also has stronger engine and differential mounts, Torsen LSD, front strut tower brace, the chassis bracing from the RS grade, a larger radiator to improve cooling on track, new design 15" alloy wheels, red cloth seats, and a red/black Nardi steering wheel. There were six exterior colours to choose from - Crystal Blue Metallic, Pure White, Sunlight Silver Metallic, Brilliant Black, Supreme Blue Mica and Classic Red.

The Mazdaspeed "NR-A" dealer option package was available and included a 6-point roll cage, front and rear tow hooks, and 4-point Takata race harnesses. Other special options included race decals, Mazdaspeed B-Spec brake pads, uprated Mazdaspeed clutch, and Mazdaspeed sports seats.

The rollcage, tow hooks, and harnesses were compulsory for drivers wanting to enter the one make Roadster races in the NR-A category. These would take place on tight and twisty technical circuits such as Tsukuba Circuit, Sodegaura Forest Raceway, and Okayama International Circuit.  You can read more on those events here: partyrace.nr-a.com
