MS-R Mazdaspeed Option Package

Racing Upgrades
Not long after the launch of the NC Roadster in America, an options package was made available to those who used their car on the racetrack. The package of upgrades consisted of the 17" alloy wheel (standard on UK Sport models), limited slip differential, rear lip spoiler, Mazdaspeed chassis bracing, Mazdaspeed engine bay brace, uprated springs, uprated dampers, uprated bumpstops, and uprated anti-roll (sway) bars. One advantage of the upgrade package was that it did not affect the car's warranty as all parts used were genuine Mazda. The race-optimised package was only available as a special order from Mazdaspeed for base model cars and only to owners who were registered with Mazda Motorsport and had entered specific race events (See news release below).

MAZDA TO OFFER MS-R CLUB RACING PACKAGE ON MX-5 MIATA
The world's most-road-raced car becomes even more competitive

Jul 13, 2007

IRVINE , Calif. - Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced the availability of a new performance package for the MX-5 Miata - the world's most road-raced car.

The MS-R (Motor Sport-Racing) package is designed specifically to enhance the on-track performance of the already-potent MX-5 in Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Showroom Stock B (SSB) road racing and C- Stock (CS) autocrossing.

The MS-R package is based on the SV model MX-5, which already includes a 166-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder MZR engine, five-speed manual transmission, four-wheel disc brakes and a trunk full of Zoom-Zoom. The package adds a limited-slip differential, front shock-tower brace, underbody chassis bracing, 17-inch alloy wheels, Koni shock absorbers, racing-specific front and rear sway bars, higher-rate springs to provide a lower ride height and a rear lip spoiler.

"We wanted to give racing enthusiasts the opportunity to outfit their Mazda MX-5s with track-tested performance parts to ensure they have a competitive package when they hit the grid," said Steve Sanders, manager, MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development. "The MS-R SCCA racing package is the ultimate addition to the world's best-selling two-seat sportscar. We expect to see MX-5s back where they belong, in the winners' circle and collecting trophies all over the country very soon."

Since its introduction in 1990, the MX-5 Miata - the world's top-selling lightweight, open-top, two-seat sportscar - has been one of the most successful models in SCCA amateur racing competition and the world's most road-raced vehicle. The MX-5 has captured multiple SCCA National Championships in the showroom stock and production racing classes, as well as SCCA national Solo competition.

To help bring this passion for racing to its customers, Mazda introduced its first racing package, the R-package MX-5 Miata, in 1994. It was followed by the Club Sport in 2001. Racers interested in purchasing the MS-R racing package or components must contact MAZDASPEED Motorsports at 800.435.2508.

On any given weekend, there are more Mazdas on the road-race tracks of America than any other brand of vehicle. At the track, you'll see MX-5 Miata, RX-8, MAZDA3, MAZDA6, RX-7 and other vintage Mazda models competing, because every Mazda has the Soul of a Sports Car. In fact, the fastest growing road-racing class in the U.S. is the SCCA's Spec Miata class, with nearly 1,500 first- and second-generation Miatas tearing up America's racetracks, making it the most-raced production car in the world. Mazda's involvement in motorsports extends to its relationship with Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, one of the world's premier road-racing circuits, and the Skip Barber Schools for driving and racing.
